Superstock Racing in New Zealand
The Superstock class is considered the premier class in the New Zealand Speedway Scene and has been the backbone of most speedways since the 1960’s.
Speedway racing is conducted on clay surfaced oval tracks. This allows the crowd to get close to see and feel the action on the track.
Superstock racing is slightly different to normal racing, the objective is still to be the first across the line, the difference is full contact being allowed. This means not every driver is after the chequered flag; this causes plenty of action during racing, with slower cars waiting to hinder the lead cars.
Teams racing is the ultimate challenge of Superstock racing where two teams of four cars race each other using tactics and strategy to win. The New Zealand Teams Championship in Palmerston North is the biggest Speedway event of the season bringing in over 30,000 spectators for the two nights of racing. The Nelson Tigers are the representative team of the Nelson Speedway.
